“All families have their hands dirty, in one way or another.” Artemis mused. The dirty backdoor dealings of the nobility were something that was just a part of Clover Kingdom’s open secret. Sometimes, to run a Kingdom, one must do what one must. The nobility were not exempt from getting their hands dirty, especially when it meant that the Clover Kingdom would benefit, and of course their own families. “But I have to admit that this has been one of the best I have had in awhile, at least, comparing those I have had during my late teens.” She shook her head, remembering all the parties and glamorous soirees she had needed to attend as the Lady of House Somerset. Truly a blessing for those who liked those kinds of events, a curse for Artemis who hated all the gossip-mongering.[break][break]
“A duty, indeed.” The life of a Magic Knight was something akin to a death sentence when it came down to the inevitable wars that spring up every few generations. As the elite force of the Clover Kingdom, the Magic Knights were often within the boundaries of the frontlines. There was no turning back, and no surrendering. It was always expected of a Magic Knight to fight for the Clover Kingdom until the very end. “Our duty is above all else, hm? Yet sometimes, one yearns for more freedom. But this is the life we chose, or was chosen for us. There is little to do but to make do with what we have.” She then pointed towards herself and Lydia, “And this, what we have, is worth living for.”[break][break]
She gave a small chaste kiss on Lydia’s lips, before turning her attention to the food. She grabbed a plate wrapped in plastic, before uncovering it to reveal a slice of cheesecake.[break][break]
“To be a Captain. That is what I aspire to be. One day I will make it there, overthrowing Barron and his ilk for letting Green Mantis slowly fall out of grace. The old guard must make way for the next generation.” She shook her head, before smiling softly, “Well, now that I had a glass, it’s your turn to try out my favourite food, hm?”[break][break]
Artemis grabbed a fork and took a small slice of cheesecake from her paper plate. She then reached over to Lydia, urging her to take a bite out of her fork. “I think it’s only fair, hm? Now, say ahh.” Artemis could not help but chuckle at their antics, yet this was the only time they could do this, away from it all. Tomorrow, they will be back working as Magic Knights, as Vice Captains of their respective squad. But today, they were just Artemis and Lydia, two women who were in love.

Regardless of what other nobles might think every family had there hands dirty whether it was for the sake of the kingdom or for there own gains it was something that was true. It was a secret at least the ones that weren't horrendous however it also wasn't a secret most people just didn't talk about it. Yes but mine more so than most after all I did fight in the war and who knows how many lives I've taken because of it but I suppose that could be said for most mages who fought in the five year war. As the water mage spoke about duty being above all else Lydia would just shake her head. No it's not above all else after all the oath we take isn't for life. One can always hang up there mantle there is no shame in doing so. Going back on your oath however is what I can't and won't forget. [break][break] After all this was the life we chose the oath we took at least most part. I'm glad all the choices we've made lead to this. The two women would then share a kiss one that Lydia wished lasted longer but there was always later. There was also the fact that the glass mage could spend the whole day kissing the green mantis vice captain and be happy. As the topic switched to Artemis goal of being the captain of green mantis the pink haired mage would nod her head. There is not denying he did a lot of good for your squad but now in the last few years the green mantis have been at a all time low that and no one leads forever. [break][break] You'll make a great captain and I know you'll beat him after all your only getting stronger perhaps your skill is already greater than his. Lydia would blink a few times as Artemis told her to open her mouth for the bite of cheesecake but she would do it regardless eating the bite before letting out a small laugh. She would then touch Arty's forehead with her own. I haven't been fed like that since who knows when. It was relaxing. The glass mage would pause for a moment looking at the other women. I love you Artemis. As much fun as the two were having the it would soon be dark being there day to a close. Should we head out soon or did you plan on us spending the night here as well?

Artemis nodded. The war took a toll on everyone involved. She remembered it as though it was yesterday, all of the stories passed down by the veterans of the Green Mantis at that time. Artemis herself had not been actively serving at the frontlines at that point. She had been but a rookie, green behind the ears, and therefore was not given any roles that were important in any sort of way. “The war. The events in the Witches’ Forest. Everything else in between. Tragedy upon tragedy, death upon death. Is it wrong for me to want to be a Magic Knight during a more peaceful time?” She shook her head, “But then again, I suppose we definitely would not be here if the circumstances were different.” [break][break]
As day slowly winded down, Artemis found herself looking towards a now setting sun. It was indeed late. [break][break]
“I love you too, Lydia.” She gave the woman another chaste kiss, before getting up and stretching. They had been laying down for quite awhile now, and it seems that the day was slowly turning into night. [break][break]
“There will be a fight.” Artemis would start now, keeping her eyes trained at the sunset. Her form would be hugged by the sea breeze, the fabric that was hanging on her hip would flutter. “And I assure you that I will be coming out on top. The Green Mantis deserves a better and brighter future.” [break][break]
She would now turn to Lydia, holding out her hand. “Shall we then? It’s getting late, and our day off is finally coming to a close.” Artemis knew that it would be a long while until they could ever do this again. Their lives as both Vice Captains made sure that their schedules are usually jam packed. But, they will make do. “The ship should be prepped to leave now, I am sure all they are waiting is for the both of us to come on board.”
[attr="class","florencetext"]The crimson lion mage would listen to what Artemis said about the war and the shattering. There was not denying they were tragedy's and anyone who thought they weren't. Well Lydia would have questions about there sanity. The topic would then switch to talks of times of peace. It was something the pink haired mage wasn't sure would every truly come back. I've been fighting in wars the past six years I'm not even sure what peace feels like anymore. However there is nothing wrong with wishing we severed during a time of peace. We defend the kingdom in times of war that doesn't mean it's our jobs to start the wars. I do suppose we might not have met if it was a time of peace. [break][break] As they shared another kiss Lydia would get up and stretch as well letting out a groan as her muscles loosened back up. I never was one for laying down for long periods of time unless it was to sleep. The glass mage would smile brightly at her partners conviction on become the next green mantis vice captain. I know there will be a fight and you will come out on top. You'll be the one to rise the green mantis to a brighter future. Lydia would take the other women's hand heading towards the boat getting inside with Arty. As they were heading back to the boat assuming Artemis used the same trick as last time. Lydia would pull out her pack of cigarettes lighting one and taking a drag before speaking. If we ever got to live in a time of peace ourselves I'd want to spend all my free time with you doing things like this.

As they got on board the small craft, Artemis found herself staring into the sunset. She was using her latent control over water to push their small landing vessel. By this point, all the other crew members had finished their tasks. Artemis was sure that they had been able to haul in a good amount of fish from the nearby school, though she made sure to remind them not to overfish. Hapshass, and the Somerset Family, depended on these spots of schools, keeping them well replenished with each breeding cycle was important.[break][break]
“One day we’ll know peace. And one day, we can spend as much together, just like today.” She smiled at her partner, who was, by now, smoking. Artemis was not a fan of that habit, though she did not say anything. More than likely, it was the woman’s way of coping. “But the road to peace is riddled with war. We do our best, and truly, that’s the only thing we can do at this point.”[break][break]
They would soon reach the Aquarius, and were subsequently handed down a rope ladder for them to use to climb on. The landing craft itself would be hauled up by another set of ropes, with the help of a wind mage. [break][break]
“I hope today was enjoyable for you,” She smiled at Lydia as they finally got themselves onboard. “This island has been a part of me since I was old enough to sail my own small boat. The island itself marks the end of Clover’s shores, and beyond is the open expanse that even we have barely begun to map.” Artemis then nodded the open sea, “The sea is something that still remains a mystery for all of us. I hope to one day explore it.” It was a dream of hers to just sail, yet it seems that that might take awhile to come to a reality still.
[attr="class","florencetext"]Lydia took another hit of her cigarette as she listened to her partner speak more on peace. It was something the vice captain wanted to happened but she wasn't sure she'd ever truly see it herself. I know clover will find peace one day but who's to say it will be in our life time. Lately it seems like it's been war after war fight after fight death after death will it ever truly end in our life time? I want to experience peace but all I've know it was these past years. The glass mage would stop speaking as they got closer to the Aquarius finishing of her cigarette before using her glass magic to turn it to ash letting it blow away with the wind. Lydia would then give the water mage a smile. I enjoyed today as well and hopes it's not to long before we can have another day like this. I suppose that's just wishful thinking however. Do we truly know so little about the sea? As for your dream I wouldn't mind sharing that experience with you if that's okay? She would then wait a few moments before kissing the green mantis vice captain. Do you mind if I spend the night with you?

As Artemis held onto the wheel of the ship, she turned towards Lydia and smiled, “Of course you can come with, it will be a grand adventure.” Sailing was always something that gave her a sense of freedom, and truly, she can sail a ship like this without any crew whatsoever, especially with her ability to manipulate water at the barest. “One day, we will get the opportunity.” She nodded. She gave the orders now to set sail. They were due back to the port in a few hours, and Artemis had wanted to sell their catch to the night market, with most of the earnings going to be split by the crew. This was not a proper fishing expedition, after all, so Artemis thought it was a nice gesture. [break][break]
Artemis would then start sailing, before she turned towards her partner once more after she had asked a question. A smile played on her lips, before she answered, “Do you even need to ask?”

Lydia found herself wondering what it would be like just explore the sea's for who knows how long but the thoughts would soon fade as the water mage spoke again. Well I figured I'd ask but I'll keep in mind I don't need to. The pink haired mage would then give her lover a kiss and watch as they made there way back to clover.
