[PTab=GENERAL INFO]
| [attr="class","gentextred"] [attr="class","characterappheader"]Appearance [break]
Thin as a rail and shrouded by many layers of chestnut brown hair, Kingsley Farebrother doesn’t stand out of a crowd. Though his face holds relatively plain features, there is a small amount of charm to the simplicity of its heart shape and pale skin. Coming from a family of tailors, he is almost always dressed in fine, albeit inexpensive, robes, often of a floral print. On the outside of these robes he wears the short, deep-indigo mantle of the Purple Orcas. Kingsley rarely trims or styles his hair, finding the exercise meaningless given the family’s status. This only serves to further the languid disposition he gives off, as the mop of bed head hair frames a pair of doe-like eyes that stare with frequent aloofness. Small, wrinkled indents on the cheek give the impression that he smiled frequently in the past, though as of late those are a rather rare sight. [attr="class","characterappheader"]Personality If one thing has remained at the core of Kingsley’s heart, it is his desire to help those in need. Fostered at a young age through helping his mother weave cloth and male alterations to clothing, it has grown into a compulsion to reach out to those at risk of failing. Though quiet and easy to overlook, Kingsley notices a lot from his vantage point in the back of crowds, and often offers advice to those he thinks need it, especially towards his teammates. He sees it as his duty to not only advance his own skills for their sake, but also to help them advance for his own sake. To those that need more than a different point of view, Kingsley is more than willing to sacrifice an afternoon or evening assisting directly to ensure someone he cares about is able to meet their goal. While no longer the exuberant child he once was, every now and then someone says or does something that pulls down the walls within and earns a smile or chuckle from him. These walls are the product of his upbringing, and align with his views on wasting time, entertainment, and vices. In Kingsley’s eyes, every person is a network of connections, threads of responsibility that pull them in different directions. Those that are easily pulled in the direction of alcohol, drugs, and gambling must have stronger connections to those things than to their country, communities, friends or family, according to Kingsley. If Kingsley sees something as a distraction from his duties, friends, or family, he quickly and plainly says his opinion and pivots towards more fruitful endeavors; something that has earned him a reputation for being a ‘downer’ or ‘goody two-shoes’. In reality, he is still nursing emotional wounds from his father’s behavior and isn’t sure how to be anything but ‘the serious one’. [attr="class","characterappheader"]History The Farebrother family didn’t always live in the Common Realm; for several generations they served as private tailors for noble families, creating fashionable pieces for private citizens and Magic Knights alike. There was even a point in Clover history that two families fought to secure the Farebrothers as their personal tailors. In more recent times, the Farebrother’s unique methods and materials had gone somewhat stale in the eyes of the nobility, and they were pushed further and further to the fringes of the capital, losing customers left and right. Sensing the writing on the wall, Kingsley’s father, Jonathan, began to drink and gamble away what little money they had retained in their attempts to weather the storm of irrelevance their business found itself in. Eventually, the debts and bar tabs were called in, and the family shop had to be sold off to avoid being sent to jail as a debtor, or worse. Young Kingsley was barely nine years old when he had to say goodbye to everything he had ever known. His father only slipped further and further into his cups now that the family had been ejected from their ancestral home. Kingsley assisted his mother in continuing the family business, now focusing more on repairs and adjustments rather than wholesale projects, but their efforts only seemed to provide his father with a new budget to squander away in his depressive episodes. Before long, Kingsley became a teenager, and his parents grew old. His mother had always dreamed of retiring, but as long as Jonathan was acting irrationally, she would have to continue working to keep them from being booted to the Forsaken Realm. Things reached a breaking point when Kingsley left for Grimoire Tower, eager to awaken his magical powers and truly make a difference for his mother. His father had challenged the wrong local crime lord to a game of chance and his luck had all but run out long ago. After losing, Jonathan entered the small home his family had made in the commoner village and began ransacking all of his wife’s belongings, seeking any ounce of coin she had squirreled away for her dream of retiring to settle his gambling debt. When his wife tried to stop him from running off with their life savings to continue his gambling habits, Jonathan struck her. Kingsley came home to find his mother still unconscious from the blow, and moved quickly to make things right. Having just received a legendary four-leaf grimoire, Kingsley’s already impressive spellwork could easily overpower that of his father’s. The young Farebrother hunted his father down, bound him with silk, and drug him out of town. What gave him the right to steal from his own wife and child? Kingsley made it clear he was no longer welcome in their home, nor their town and returned to take care of his injured mother. Once she was in better shape, she noticed the shining grimoire her son had received. Though he would have much rather stayed and taken care of her, she begged and pleaded with Kingsley, asking that he head to the Magic Knights Entry Exam held in Kikka. Kingsley realized that he would have a much better chance of supporting her with a Magic Knight’s salary, and set off for Kikka. Though the four-leaf grimoire caught the attention of many, Kingsley ultimately accepted a position within the Purple Orcas, due to their Hideout’s proximity to the village where his mother lived. |

[break]
Blessed with a four-leaf grimoire, Kingsley takes his normally simple attribute of Cloth and turns it up to 11. While not built for strict attacking, he does excel in nets, webs, and bindings, holding targets in place for allies to attack or to drag in criminals for arrest. With his fine control of his silk, Kingsley can even cause spines to sprout from within the threads, cutting those held in its grasp like a barbed wire. The other strength of Kingsley’s Cloth magic lies in its ability to create protective robes and shielding walls, weaving layers of silk together to increase their durability. These shields are often responsive to physical contact, reacting to attempts at breaking through with silk spines; these spines often break away with the attacker, clinging to them and slowing them down.
