Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Instead of a dangerous mission given to him by The Order of the Magic Knights, Valo found himself doing more of a personal request. Since becoming a magic knight, Valo has made quite the few connections throughout the towns of Clover. Especially in Hapshass, each town had it's pros and cons Hapshass being a port town for trade and one of the main central points for potions and methods of healing. Valo made sure to make certain connections with some of the traders, townsfolk, and shop owners just in case he needed something. This mindset came from the connections he made in Kikka, when he wasn't robbing, stealing, and fighting he was making connections for him and his old gang. It was a simple phrase he followed, you scratch my back and I scratch yours.
Right now he was on a personal request from a witch he had come to know over the passing two months. She was a very bright and talented witch, who could make potions with amazing effects out of the strangest of materials. But she had recently just given birth to a child, so for the moment she was unable to go out and get the materials for her potions. And so entered Valo fulfilling this request, it sounded simple at first but when further explained he realized now clearly that this wasn't such a simple task. This may involve some engaging fights, with some nasty beasts and monsters. So Valo decided to bring over a trusted ally, who would be perfect for this kind of stuff.
The green mantis knight turned his head, to look at the red head Genesis. She could be cold, a little too serious, and deadly honest and Valo enjoyed her company. Her overall demeanor reminded him of his old friends in Kikka, plus they were very much alike. While Valo was a bit more patient, and laid back now compared to his earlier years they both had that strike first ask questions later mentality. Considering the kind of beasts they were going to be facing, he wanted to have that kind of partner with him.
Valo carried his new weapon with him in his right hand, a long silver bo staff this would be the first time using the weapon out on the field. He was well trained in using a staff as a weapon, it was a preferred weapon on choice it always just flowed naturally with his other physical attacks. But this weapon was different, it wasn't just a simple staff the material was very odd and using it's special ability was entirely new to him. He wouldn't admit it but he wasn't that confident that he had complete control of it, but he was excited to use a new weapon so he brought it along anyway. Plus with his new Magic Knight rank, he felt the staff was the perfect addition to his arsenal as a Senior Rank magic knight.
In his left hand he was holding a list of the materials the two needed to gather. "Ok...so we need to gather three bat eyes, one feather of firebird and seven bunches of lavender pops. And we should be able to find all that here in the forests, if we travel deep enough. What you think Gen?" he asked the red head, wanting to get her opinion before they started to head out.

After going through the Eldritch Home, her fighting partner had invited her again to another mission. The redhead had accepted it quite readily, since she was still in Hapshass. She had found a local armor smith, and had just finished designing her new arm braces with him. After her recent fights, she thought it was a good idea to have additional reinforcements on her. She may be fast, but it would still be better to don some sort of protection then nothing at all. It would still give her freedom of movement, however. She made sure of that.
The invitation description had mentioned being in the nearby forests, so it would all work out. She would be able to see her comrade again and be back in town the same day. Genesis had made her way over to the outskirts of town to find Valo around there. The fighting energy from the dungeon had not quite yet worn off, though as she sauntered over to the Magic Knight, her disposition was back to her usual coolness. However, there was no hint of suspicion and wariness now, compared to when they first met.
Straight to business. She liked that. “What do I think?” She cocked an eyebrow at him. “I think we’re burning daylight.” Her comment was half in jest and half in seriousness, though she was sure her companion would be able to relate. Fighting together really does build up the comrade spirit, as she was learning. It also helped that the knight had a similar personality to hers, willing to work hard and fight hard. In addition, exciting adventures always seemed to follow him, and she was always up for that type of outing.
After that dungeon, she could sense that in terms of power, the fire mage had grown considerably. He was the same person, but something felt...different. Different in a good way. She did not know much about knight ranks, but she felt that he must have gotten some type of upgrade. He also has a shiny new weapon with him, some type of long staff, from the looks of it. Curiosity overpowered her and she walked closer to examine it.
The red-haired woman still kept a reasonable distance, however, since she knew some fighters were wary of others touching their weapons. She herself would fly in a rage if someone tried to touch Chuchote without her permission. She did, however, jut her chin towards the staff. “What’s that?”
Assuming the knight would give her some sort of answer, Genesis would nod and look towards the forest. “So...bats, firebirds, and lavender pops. That last one...is it a flower?” She paused for a second in thought. “Sounds easy enough to find, but maybe we should pick that up last? Don’t want to get it squished or anything. You mentioned that these items are for your friend’s potion, correct?” Then she would stride along ahead on to the path into the forest, her long crimson waves swinging freely behind her. Daylight was burning, and she was eager to fight something again.

Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Valo heard the red head's comment, and rolled his eyes in jest and chuckled. "Then let's get moving." he replied folding the list and slipping it in his pocket. Valo was starting to know how Genesis liked to face things, and it was very similar to his own. She didn't like to waste time, when they could just be using that time to do what needs to be done. Valo approached things a very similar way, he didn't like to waste time. Time in itself was very valuable, it could be used to train, or better yet complete some jobs and get some money. And money was always one of the main reasons, why Valo worked as hard as he did. He liked to have money, it was just in his nature to be greedy. And becoming a more powerful magic knight as like hitting two birds with one stone, the stronger he grew, the higher he ranked, the higher the rank the more money he gets.
Even this job while a favor yes, was still a promise of being paid at the end of it that really motivated him. The thoughts of filling his pockets with more gold left a little smirk on his face. It had been quite a while since he has treated himself, to some new things. After this he planned to do so, it was time for some new material objects to add to his useless collection. Valo's wondering mind came back, when Genesis gestured towards his new weapon and asked what it was.
Valo picked his staff up and twirled it, with his fingers it was easy to tell he was rather excited and proud of his new weapon. He did one twirl and pressed the staff on the ground leaving it standing upright "This is Hinokagutsuchi, or Hino for short. Ive had a blacksmith work on this for quite some time. So I'm pretty happy it's finally finished, and it's my new partner in crime." Valo said with a wide grin on his face, he looked over to her new arm brace. "I see you got some upgrades as well." he said gesturing towards her new spike arm brace.
But now it was time to get moving, he picked up his weapon with his left hand and let it rest on his shoulder as they started to walk in deeper into the forest of Hapshass. "Yeah the lavender pops should be saved for last, I agree. And you can say that, I help her out and she returns the favor when needed. She needs certain ingredients for a potion or something, and she doesn't have the time to go out on her own. So here we are." Valo gave Genesis a quick briefing on what the objective was, and the purpose. It wasn't going to be as crazy as the dungeon, hopefully this little adventure was a bit more lax and easy going.
As they walked in further, the forest becoming a bit more dense and a tad bit darker. It was still light out, but some of the shadows coming from the trees were getting bigger. Valo would stop walking after a while, something was alerting his sensory his overall sensory wasn't half bad now. While it wasn't a main focus for him, he was now pretty capable of sensing things around him much better than before. He raised his hand up and used two fingers to point to their left, "We got four incoming on our left, Gen." he warned the red head, as four large bats came from the shadows on the left they were on the ground and instead of flying they were slowly approaching the duo. "We take two each, that should be fair game yeah?" Valo asked Genesis with a smirk on his face. As always the young magic knight was ready for some action.

As Valo was explaining about his staff, Genesis studied it closely. It looked very simple from the outside, but she knew there would be more to it than just a silver-colored staff. It was fairly long, as long as the knight’s height when upright, if not more. The simplicity of its form, the promise of its range—she was sure she would be able to see it in action soon, and looked forward to its performance.
“Mhmm.” She lifted an arm, watching the sunlight reflect off the sharp spikes. “Just something me and a local armorsmith made. Can’t have a beast wasting my precious blood again.” She smirked, referring to the first injury she received back at the Eldritch House. The said wound had healed up nicely, with only a faint scar as a sign she even got hurt at all. She had learned her lesson. She was better prepared this time.
The red-haired female had walked on ahead, but her companion had quickly caught up to her. He gave her an answer to her earlier question and a briefing to what was going on. She nodded, taking it all in. As they pressed deeper into the forest, the trees grew thicker and sunlight was scarce. Even the atmosphere became more hushed. Where shadows abounded, its mage strode in confidence into her domain.
After the haunted house episode, she had also been working on her sensory, and was also able to sense more than back then. “Two, hmm?” As she was still speaking, shadows leapt into each of her hands, forming two Couteaux. The shadow wisps were barely in place before the femme launched them out. Two shadow knives streaked towards her chosen two targets, pinning the struggling bats’ wings to the ground. Chuchote sang as she jumped in, slashing it across and through the captive creatures. Two down. An inaudible murmur, properly sending them off in their ends.
She just hoped that her actions had not scared the other two bats that her companion was supposed to deal with. She bent down to collect both of her shadow knives. She was about to cut off their heads so they could get the needed eyes, but then something came flying over her head, and she ducked just in time. Clear eyes darted above her. Four more bats, it seemed. At least these ones seem more normal, since they were actually flying.
“Two more for ya!” She called out to Valo. With a knife on her right hand and her dagger and another knife in the other, the young woman stood completely still, trying to sense the flying creatures’ movements. There! She flicked her right hand up, releasing the blade. It soared through the air, splitting through one of its wings. The bat, suddenly burdened by the knife and with one of its wings out of commission, tumbled to the ground. Gen cut its head off quickly with her dagger, and like before, murmured a quick word to honor its life.
One more. This time, the fourth bat came screeching at her, flying at her like a rocket. She lifted her arms to protect her face, and as she did so, one of her arm brace spikes raked across the flying creature as it wooshed past. Its high-pitched scream was so close to her ears, the shadow mage winced. But she immediately transferred her shadow-formed blade to her other hand, and threw.
It hit her target. However, unlike before, it was not a clean hit. She only heard a blood-curdling screech, the flutter of wings…but no thump! of its body hitting the ground. Gen bit her bottom lip and frowned. Somewhere, a bat was flying around with one of her shadow knives embedded in it. She needed to find it and give it a swift and merciful end. As much as she liked fighting mana beasts, she did not like prolonging their struggle and misery. A quick and painless death is best.

"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Valo saw Genesis go to work quickly as soon as he mentioned the arrival of the mana beasts, she conjured her shadows to her whim started her own offense. But now was the time to focus on his own enemies, he had to face two of these large bats himself. While Valo wasn't threatened by the bats appearance, he was going to approach them a bit more cautiously then usual. His plan was not only use this little job to get some extra coin in his pocket, but also as a little testing ground for his new weapon. He had yet bring the staff out in the field, and wanted to get some practice with it in real actual combat. He had used staffs before, but none with an ability like this he knew it was going to take some getting used to.
He turned his attention to the two large bats, and twirled his weapon in his fingers starting on his right side then moving over to his left. He was getting used the staffs weight and feel, to him it felt light but still had some weight to it. But the weight felt good, it gave him a nice sense of flow and feel and he knew there would be some power behind it's strikes. As Valo was getting a feel for his new weapon, the bats started to move in closer and faster. "Alright Hino your up." he said speaking to the staff directly. One of the bats started running at Valo full speed, but Valo was the faster still and prepared with a twirl and side step Valo swung his staff horizontally striking the bat right in it's face and sending it back a few meters crashing into some trees. "Wheeeeewwwww." the whistling sound escaped Valo's lips satisfied with the blow. The one strike alone was enough to put the creature down for good. For a quick second, Valo nodded in it's direction paying his respects.
But the other bat came in to attack, Valo spun his weapon in his hands ready to face his next target moving the staff behind his back while keeping it the same rotation speed. Having it flow easily into his next attack, or so he thought while in mid spin the staff knicked the back of his head not enough to really hurt him but enough to throw him off his flow. "Owe!" he shouted after feeling the hit from his own weapon. But he little time to really be distracted, luckily with his small lantern increasing his speed and reaction time dodging the bats attacks was doable. To add onto that Valo's already natural speed was steadily increasing as the fight went on, allowing him to move even faster and swifter. Valo dodged by jumping towards his left, and used his momentum to pounce up into the air his left hand was free and he opened his hand creating a swirl of blue flames that quickly formed into a disk of intense blue flames. "Kaiten-en." With a swing of his left arm, he tossed the flaming blue disk towards the bat hitting it vertically with enough power behind it to finish it off.
Valo landed on the ground, just as Genesis warned him of two more bat like mana beasts heading towards them. Valo held up his staff to eye level in his right hand, and gave it a peculiar look. "Clearly I'm out of practice." he said to himself, referring to how he accidentally hit himself with his own weapon. He was a tad bit embarrassed, but he wouldn't admit it. If anything the scene was more comical. He gave the weapon another spin, and held it behind him ready to face the other threats coming toward him. This time a little frustrated Valo took the more direct offensive approach, and used his speed to start his attack he moved in swiftly setting himself up pretty closely to one of the bats. Using his left hand he brought his closed fist up, and landed a solid uppercut to the bats chest he spun his body around and landed straight kick directly in the same spot taking care of another bat like mana beast.
Valo turned towards his next target, to see the bat was already heading towards him slightly airborne. Valo twirled his weapon to position himself to counter with an attack of his own. He awaited for the bat to come down, and just at the right moment he swung the staff upwards landing a solid strike to the bats head. The attack was powerful enough to knock out the bat completely, killing it. Valo paused for a moment and gently payed his respects. He turned over to Genesis to see if she was done with her part, and saw her toss one of her shadow knives at the last bat. It hit but it failed to bring it down, Valo walked over to her. "Welllll that sucks." he said with a light chuckle. "Welp better get these bat eyes while we can! We only need three according to the list!" Valo started to make his way towards one the bats he had taken down.
Valo took a good look at one of the bats, and used his free left hand to do the dirty work. He quickly and efficiently plucked one of the eyes out from the bat, with little to no effort. It wasn't a pretty sight, but it didn't seem to bother Valo at all. Not a lot disgusted him other then fish and the smell of it. When it came to rather dirty work like this Valo was used to it. He placed the one eyes in his little bag satchel hanging on his waist.

At the knight’s words, Gen nodded slowly. “True...” But her eyes were still searching. The frown was still on her face as she tried to sense where the last one was. Death should be a quick and sweet release, not a torturous process. Where is it... Then she heard a flutter. She ran over to where she heard it, almost tripping over a stone in her haste. That injured bat had fallen onto the crock of a branch, the knife catching between the leaves and holding it there. No wonder she did not hear the sound of its body hitting the ground.
Chuchote flashed, and the struggling creature was released from its prison and its life. “À tout seigneur tout honneur.” She murmured, then cleaned the blood and her dagger with a leaf and slid it back in its sheath. “Honor life, and keep your blade clean.” She could almost hear her old mentor saying that line to her. Those were the two points that he had drilled into the young woman, and she now lived them out as her own. There were many other things he had taught her, but she had remembered those two the most.
Now she walked back over to where the Green Mantis was standing, and saw that he was none for the worse. Unfortunately, the shadow mage had missed the part where the staff had hit its owner on the head. From her peripheral, she had only noticed some blue fire, silver flashes and a few whooshing sounds—but that was all. She had been too busy on her side to notice too much on what her companion was doing. Which was both a pro and a con, in that she missed his comical flop, but also would have possibly resulted in too many blind spots if this was in a real battle. That would be something she also needed to work on, being more sensitive of her comrades and their positions.
Right. Those bat eyes. Seeing how the knight only took one, Gen picked up one of the chopped heads, and with her shadow knife, gutted out both of its eyes. They were tiny, like little black beads, and she had to be careful not to drop them. Hmm... The redhead glanced around, then grabbed one of the broad leaves from the nearby bushes. She carefully wrapped them up before handing it to Valo. It would not do to lose something along the way. “Bat eyeballs. And now we need a firebird’s feather. Just what kind of potion is your friend making?”
Then they were on the move again, and her eyes were darting left and right, scouting out the area. “Where do we find a firebird?” She had only heard of them in stories and myths, in those great legends of lore. She had never seen one in person, much less think they could easily find any around the area.
However, from her limited knowledge, she figured a firebird would give off a lot of heat, so they should be able to sense it by its warmth. That should be easy to sense, since the deeper one presses into the woodlands, the colder and darker it would become. In addition, those mythical creatures were usually surrounded in fire, which should be easy to see in the dark recesses of these forests. At least, that was her guess. But who knows? Maybe those firebirds glowed in black fire.
But then, something flickered and glowed in the distance, and Gen quickened her steps. “What’s that?” She whispered. Assuming Valo was right behind her or next to her, the redhead continued pressing in, towards that light and that clearing. However, she kept her footsteps light and nimble, trying to get close to that strange light without attracting any unnecessary notice, whatever it was. Strangely enough, she began to feel warmer the closer they got. Was it the firebirds they were looking for?

Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Valo shook his left hand trying to get the small smears of blood of his fingers, then after wiping his had on a nearby tree. But Valo noticed when Genesis started to make haste to finish off the mana beast, she nearly tripped over a piece of stone she was in such a hurry. She made sure to end the beasts life quickly, there was no need to cause anymore pain. Despite their aggressive like natures, they both never forgot about the value of life no matter human or beast. While it could be fun and great way to test ones abilities, there was a line one should not cross when taking the lives of mana beasts. Seeing this made his trust for Genesis grow, he wouldn't have to worry about her taking things a little to far. When she made her way back to him, he would nod at her as a show of respect for her quick actions.
Luckily it seemed like she didn't notice Valo's little mishap with his staff, he was a little relieved by this and took another look at his weapon. "So you're going to be a fickle one huh?" he said quietly to himself as he spoke to his staff. While of course the weapon was an inanimate object, Valo spoke to it as if it was an actual person. It may be odd to some, but he was this way even in his youth. Valo was never one to mainly use weapons like swords, hammers, or axes but when he did get some training back home in Kikka. His old teacher always spoke to her weapons, and stated
"Your weapon may not be alive in the traditional sense. But do not think for a second that it does not have a sense of life or purpose in itself. A weapon can be grumpy, angry, kind, loyal, fickle many things and more. But its up to you the wielder to use it as an extension of oneself and develop a bond."
Valo spun the staff in his fingers a few times, and took a quick breath. "We'll get there." he said to himself. It was right after this Genesis wrapped up the other bat eyeballs and handed them over to Valo asking a question about the kind of potion this witch was making. Truthfully Valo had no idea what kind of potion she was making, he was given a pretty thorough explanation but all he could remember was thinking about what he was going to spend his gold on. He did vaguely remember her stating that it would help her out with the newborn in some way. "Uummmmm something to help with babies or something like that. I don't know what kind of baby potion needs bat eyes, but I'm not one to question." Valo answered Genesis following her as they ventured deeper into the forrest.
The duo moved in further and further so far no sign of a fire bird. "That is a good question." he replied to the red head. "I do feel some heat though, it's faint but its there we should just keep moving forward." Valo had only seen a fire bird once in his childhood, they were pretty cool creatures and Valo being a fire mage himself he was in a way drawn to them. He did create his own golem creations, which were aptly named after the Fire Birds. But he also remembered they were extremely aggressive beasts, and little worked to calm one down once it got going. Eventually it got warmer and warmer, they were getting close with the added warmth and heat Valo started to feel more and more at ease. He took a deep breath in with his nose, and let it out blowing hot air smoke. There was some flickering of light, and small embers rising into the air, from where the two were standing they were about twenty meters away from the fire birds. "Looks like we may have found their location."
Instead of just jumping in and heading straight into a fight, Valo tapped Genesis on the shoulder and gestured to follow him as he took a few steps back. He started to speak in more a whisper. "I don't want to kill these birds, they are kind of ...unique. All we need is one feather, now we may have to get into a little scuffle but the most I plan to do is knock em out so they can wake up later." Valo said to his companion, he took a moment to think and continued.
"I have a plan. I'll be the bait and get their attention, hopefully they'll be focused on me. You can come in from behind and pluck a feather while they are distracted." Valo's grimoire started to float by his side, and with his free left hand he held up two fingers a swirl of blue fire started to encircle them. "And to help us with our escape, we can use my friend here Masshiro." Valo said as his blue flames started to take form of three long white colored dragons. The dragon was a new golem that the fire mage had created, it was decently strong but it's main use was it's flying ability. If the plan worked smoothly, Genesis should be able to pluck one of the feathers and escape on Masshiro's back using it to fly away.

At the Magic Knight’s nod to her, Gen responded in kind, dipping her head briefly. Valo had also proven himself worthy of her comradery, both in his words and actions. She was lucky to have an ally like him to fight alongside with. Back in the forest, and at the haunted mansion, he had proven himself quick-witted and even quicker with his feet and hands when it came to fighting. There was still a lot she could observe and learn from the fire mage.
“Baby potion?” The redhead raised an eyebrow, but did not press it further. She doubted the man would know more about it anyways. Was it a potion for an easier and less painful birth? That would explain why the alchemist could not get the ingredients herself. Although the specified elements were pretty difficult to get, especially this next one, so perhaps she needed a knight to get it? Or perhaps…
She threw a look at the Green Mantis. Her mind had jumped to a possible conclusion. She had to admit that he was fairly good-looking, and can be a gentleman to boot. There was nothing difficult in imaging a girl swooning over him. Perhaps the witch had a fancy on him? But then again, he did mention it was a baby potion, so she was married… Then she wanted to facepalm herself. What in the world was she thinking about anyways? His life was his business—there was no place and no reason for her to go poking in another’s private life.
As for the shadow mage herself, she had never thought of having any close friends, much less any romantic endeavors. To her, that was something she never spent much time pondering about. In fact, it was usually the opposite, as she tried to escape any type of attention. She grimaced. Her recent encounters with certain male acquaintances had only solidified her disdain on such types of relationships. But who knows? Perhaps a certain someone would force her into something and she would gradually find something in someone…
She shook her head. The mission was their top priority right now. What was she doing, letting her mind wander off like that? She pinched her arm, feeling the pain and letting it ground her to reality. Then, at the knight’s tap and words, she gave a curt nod. It seemed like they had found their firebirds, and his idea made sense to her. “Sounds like a plan,” she whispered back to him. “Though I don’t know if I can even get close enough to knock them out. I’ll probably burn to a crisp first.” Her smirk could be heard in her words, even though she kept her voice low.
The fire mage seemed to have no end to his surprises. Her eyes quirked up when she beheld his fire magic forming into a pale dragon. “Wow...” This was her first time seeing one of his golems. In fact, she did not know before that he could also do these kinds of summonings. “That’s really cool!” The dragon looked big enough to seat two people on its back, and she figured that would be the follow-up after she grabbed the feather.
“Give me a few minutes to get into position, oui?” Gen nodded towards the firebirds, indicating her intentions. Assuming he heard, she would begin to creep to the opposite side of their current position. She took her time, not wanting to attract the firebirds’ attention. As she skirted around the mythical birds, she could see those majestic creatures in their nest, all aglow in their fiery glory. Not only did they have terribly sharp beaks and talons, those birds were simply massive in size. Their very aura radiated their unearthly power. She could only imagine how wide their outstretched wings would be, and how powerful and painful a stroke would be if any hit them. She just hoped her companion would be careful when he taunted them.
The young woman crouched down and wrapped several nearby shadows around her legs for Accélérer. She would need it when she ran in for that feather. From her position, the nearest firebird was around fifteen meters away. She would aim for one of the tail feathers, as they were longer and should be easier to grab. But if they moved out of reach, she would aim to pluck off any feather she could get her hands on.
A hand was on the ground, grounding her balance. The adrenaline was pumping through her, but she kept her breathing calm and steady. The shadow mage let out a little of her magic float up above her position, signaling to her partner that she was ready. Her knees were bent and ready to spring forward as soon as Valo made his move.

"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
"Oh you think so?" Valo replied to Genesis's comment about his golem, there was a level of satisfaction in his voice. It may seem odd to some, but Valo took a lot of pride in his golems. He did take his time with each one's appearance, design and functionality they were like art pieces to him. He look at his golem looking very pleased with his design. But now it was time to execute the plan, Genesis was all up for it and needed time to get in position. "Alright Masshiro follow behind her closely." Using his mana tether to his golem Masshiro, he had it crawl against the ground in a position not to far from where Genesis was directly behind her. He kept the other two golems near him, he was going to use them to help with the distraction.
Leaving Valo on his own for now, he gently tapped the end of his staff Hino to the side of his head. "Alright now it's time to distract." Valo said to himself walking towards the open location of the fire birds. He peaked in and got a good look at the beasts, they were tall birds maybe even massive. They were also quite amazing to look at, they weren't really on fire all over just some embers on their head and wings. Other than that they were red and orange colors that were patterned around their body. Their beaks and talons were sharp and long, getting hit by these creatures would probably hurt a ton.
He was able to spot Genesis getting ready to spring into action, she was just waiting for him. "Alright here goes nothing." Valo said to himself right before jumping in and revealing himself to the large fire birds. Right behind him his other two white dragon golems, coiled around him keeping their eyes on the fire birds. While his golems may have been pretty long in size, the fire birds themselves were bigger. "Ooogga Booga Oooggaa!" he shouted at the brids, the two fire birds looked directly at Valo's location with fierceness in their eyes, the look on their faces were obvious just what or who was foolish enough to disturb them. They both raised up and spread out their large red and orange wings, igniting fire to cover just their wings. It was pretty obvious they were about to attack. Using his mana tether he started to control his golems to fly around him almost in like dance, to really get them going. Valo wanted to be sure him and his golems had their unyielding attention, to give Genesis the time she needed to pluck a feather.
But he didn't want the fire birds to start running, flying and attacking until Genesis got the feather. He wanted to keep them ground as long as possible, but it looked like that was going to be the case regardless as the large fire birds started to make their way towards Valo beaks in front ready to pierce him. Luckily Valo was the faster and was able to dodge one the birds attempts to peck him, by slipping into the air and doing a dodge to his left. "Woooooohhhh, that was close. Gen make your move!!" he said quickly turning his head to get a good look at them. Both large fire birds started to chase him down, but they didn't get far both birds were stopped in their tracks when tackled by Valo's Masshiro golems. Hopefully this would give Genesis enough time to get a feather off one of them, if she succeeded Valo's third golem wouldn't be to far. For her to hop onto and make an escape.

As Genesis crawled over to position, it seemed like Valo sent one of his golems to follow her. How nice of him. She got ready. As soon as he jumped out and attracted their attention, she jumped out from her hiding spot as well. With Accélérer giving her an extra speed boost, she ran straight for the firebird closest to her. She almost reached its tail before it flapped up, way above her head. She had not expected the heat to be so hot, and was caught off guard for a second by its intense radiation.
They still have not noticed her presence yet. Good. She could hear the knight still holding their attention with whatever he was doing. Probably waving his rod around and taunting them. Or maybe doing some dance with his dragons. Whatever he was doing, she needed to pluck one as soon as possible. Even though she knew the fire mage was powerful, the firebirds were definitely bigger and more experienced in battle. After all, these mythical creatures lived scores and hundreds of years before they are reincarnated. However old these ones currently were, it would not be wise to be dallying around them.
"Woooooohhhh, that was close. Gen make your move!!"
Genesis ducked as the one closest to her spread its feathers, narrowly missing the powerful wings and whoosh of heat that came from the creature. She leapt forward, but then came the heat again. She bit down on her bottom lip. It was like a delicate dance, trying to get close without attracting their attention. As Valo gave her another opening, she leapt in and barely grabbed onto one of its feathers. Yes! It burned to the touch, but she yanked at it and felt a touch of satisfaction as it came out. She did not need to pull to hard, but now her cover was definitely blown. Oh dear... The owner was turning around to see who had just plucked off one of its feathers, its eyes glittering and burning.
“Got it!” She yelled, hoping her comrade could hear her wherever he currently was. The firebird looked mighty pissed, and Genesis could feel its fury building up. Whoosh! Sizzling bursts of heat brushed past her, sparks flying all around. She booked it. As fast as she could, she ran back to where she had jumped out from, and where she assumed the pale dragon was. She leaped onto its back, one hand holding on to the feather securely. “I got it! Let’s go!”
One of them was coming for her, and she trusted Valo to guide his golem accordingly. Assuming it was now up and in the air, the redhead kept a close look at her companion, hoping he would be able to get away all right. They were not out of trouble just yet. The pair of firebirds could still possibly chase them up in the air. Even if the fire mage was not able to control the golem she was currently on, Genesis would take out her magical broom and use it to fly upwards.
As she started ascending, shadows jumped into her hand, forming her trusty Couteaux knives. If the birds started flying after them, she would use it on the firebirds if needed, though they would probably be more for distraction then actual harm. Her every nerve was on edge, tense and alert, ready to launch them out at a moment’s notice.

"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Genesis came through! Valo spotted her when she took the feather from one of the fire birds, and heard her call. As soon as the shadow mage hopped on his golem, it would react to his mana tether commanding it to fly upwards and away. "Nice! The plan was flawless!" Valo said excitedly, kind of proud of himself seeing his plan come together.
With his dragon golem now flying away and getting Genesis out of harms way with the feather, the two firebirds turned their heads back towards him the last target. The wide grinning Valo, now look concerned for his own safety. Normally he could take these birds in a fight, but he rather not hurt too much at all. The fire birds started to close in on him their eyes focused on the green mantis magic knight. Valo took a leap back, and using his mana tether called his two dragon golems to crash into the firebirds again. Not to damage them but to simply hold them, back while he try to escape.
His plan for escape being his new weapon Hinokagutsuchi, he held the silver colored staff in his right hand and looked at it. "Alright Hino, just come through." he spoke to his weapon. He held the staff out in front of him, gripping it hard as hhe was getting ready. He took a deep breath, and focused this would be the first time he would activate his weapon's ability. He probably should have gotten some practice with it at first, but figured the best kind of practice is just real life situations like he was in now. He looked up at the fire birds, they were tearing into his golems he only had a few seconds left. His eyes focused, as he said he words. "Zōka!!" he shouted expecting his weapon to activate it's ability. But nothing happened.
The fire birds now done with his golems, destroying them as they withered away into blue embers. Focusing on Valo once more, the fire mages face now getting desperate. "Come on! Come on! You dumb...I mean you beautiful piece of art! Zōka! Zōka!...Zōkaaa!!" he said the final shout finally called his weapon to life activating it's ability. Right in the nick of time avoiding the fire birds attacks.
In the next moment Hinokagutsuchi grew much much longer, no longer a six feet bo staff. But now a really long pole growing over ten meters in length and still going with Valo at the top using it to rise in the air. "Hahahahaa! It works! It works!" Valo shouted as his weapon lifted him higher and higher into the air. Now reaching up to thirty meters, Valo used his mana tether to call his golem that was carrying Genesis over to him. Once close enough Valo would hop on top of his golem, still holding Hino that was now a thirty meter long pole. Valo looked at it, and focused for a moment causing it to shrink to it's normal size of a six feet staff. Valo remained standing and twirled his weapon in his hand, but the threat of the fire birds was not over. The large fire birds took flight and started to give a little chase to the duo, Valo would command his golem to start flying away starting a chase.
"Hrrrrmmmmmm looks like they really wanna chase us. Maybe a little attack would change their minds." Valo said as he tucked his weapon under his arm but pointed it at one of the fire birds.
"Throw a shadow dagger at the other, that should be enough to get them off our tail." Valo said to Genesis. "Zōka" the words left his lips more confidently than before, and his weapon responded. Growing again in length, but he waited for the fire bird to get close. The staff grew only fifteen meters long to hit one of the fire birds causing it to stop in tracks after receiving the damage.

Genesis breathed a sigh of relief when the dragon golem she hopped on started to fly. She had the precious feather held securely in one hand, and with the other she held two of her Couteaux knives. His plan had worked out beautiful, but now it was time to make their exit.
She was now out of harm’s way, but not her companion. The two firebirds, one more enraged than the other, started to close in on him. “Valo!” She shouted, but it was unlikely that he heard it over the battle clashes of his golems and the fiery birds. What was he trying to do? All she saw was him talking to his silver staff...yelling now. Her knees tightened around the flying creature, and her lips were pressed in a thin line. She was about ready to throw her knives at the firebirds, when something finally happened.
Her eyes widened when she saw the silver staff start to glow. It was long already, but now it grew even longer...and longer. The dragon she was riding on swooped directly above him, and she watched him hang on to one end as it brought himself up and onto the golem. “Wow...” But they were not out of danger yet. Both of the firebirds came flying up at them, no doubt ready to give chase on the intruders...one of them a thief.
Genesis’ left hand tightened around her knives. She really should be using both hands, but one of them was currently preoccupied. If she put the feather in her pocket, it would certainly get crushed with her movements. Yet, she needed both hands. After a moment of thought, the redhead opened her grimoire and used the book to hold the feather.
Then the knight suggested attacking the birds to get them off their tail. She dipped her head. “Got the right one.” With the feather safely stowed away, she got up to her feet, balancing on the dragon’s back. For a flying creature, it was a fairly stable transport. Her eyes narrowed as she took aim, and one of her shadow knives went sailing for the bird on the right. It hit one of its wings, not enough to severely damage it, but enough to throw its balance off for a quick second.
Her second knife quickly followed, aimed for the same spot so it would further throw the firebird off balance. Her aims were quick and sure, and thankfully, they hit the spot she was aiming for. It spiraled out of control and down to the treetops, where it should have a softer landing then if it had hit the ground. “There we go.” Genesis brushed her hands off. Valo seemed to have no difficulty in handling the other firebird, but then again, was there anything he could not handle?
“I think we’re safe for now.” She glanced down over the forest. They were far away enough from the nest. “But that was pretty cool, though.” She was referring to both the fight and the silver staff, but did not say anything more, leaving it open for interpretation.
“So, now all we need are some flowers? Lavender or something like that?” Assuming that Valo would direct his flying golem down somewhere back to the ground, the shadow mage would nod her thanks and hop off. “Feather’s in my grimoire, by the way.” If the Green Mantis knight asked for it, she would open her grimoire and hand it over. If he did not, she would hold onto it until he asked for it later on.
“So, I assume those flowers are purple colored, but there’s a lot of purple flowers here.” She remarked, looking around at where they were. “Do you know what they look like? Or what they smell like?”

"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
With his staff Hinokagutsuchi extending to boop the fire bird on their left right on it's head, it decided to stop its chase. The hit wasn't really meant to seriously hurt or damage it, but more so to drive them away. And it worked, Genesis used her precise throws to nick the wings of the other firebird taking it off corse. "Niiiceee aim, I could watch you hit targets all day." Valo said his companion, with a smirk on his face.
Valo shortened his staff back to it's normal length, and twirled it a few times. "Mmmm. Thanks, but Hino missing something and it's being...finicky. But now at least I know it works the way I want it to." Valo rested the staff on his shoulder. "But I wish I had your precision and timing, your always dead on target." Valo used his mana tether to bring his dragon golem down to ground level. Though they just dealt with the firebirds, they weren't finished yet. The next item on the list was a bunch of lavender pops. With a special note on the side, stating they were kind of smelly.
Valo landed his dragon golem in a safe spot, lots of flowers in the area of all colors. "Not to sure what they look like, buuutt she did state these lavender pops have a certain...bad smell." Valo said picking up a random purple flower and sniffing it, it didn't smell bad it looked pretty normal so that one couldn't be it. It hadn't been long but the fire mage was already bored with this task, looking for flowers wasn't really his thing. "Ugghhh I'm bored. You find anything yet Gen?" he asked the shadow mage, hoping she may have found the smelly lavender flowers. In the mean time he checked his satchel holding the bat eyes, all three still in good condition. Genesis had the firebird feather safe in her grimoire. All that was left was to find these smelly purple flowers.

At the knight’s words of praise, the redhead rolled her eyes, trying to hide how pleased she was of her skills being noticed. “Oh, please. The first ninety-nine throws would be boring to watch.” It was not every day she got to put them into practice, and she was glad that all her hard work was starting to pay off. “Well, you did say you just got that staff,” she pointed out, “so you’ll get better at it the more you practice and fight with it.” She had been practicing with her knives for a while now, so it made sense that she was more adept at it.
She watched the staff shorten down to its usual length. It was pretty cool to have a magical item like that. “Hino?” She remembered he mentioned its full name earlier. Something like Hinokagushi or something like that. “Does it have a meaning?” She asked curiously. It had sounded like a foreign language to her.
As they landed, she hopped off the dragon golem. She patted the head briefly, and for a split second, there was a small sliver of a genuine smile. Then just as quickly, it disappeared, and she was once again on the move, looking for the purple flower. “Bad smell, huh?” With that, she went down on her knees and took a deep breath. Nope. Nothing out of the ordinary. She got up and moved to another area, repeating the same actions. Nothing.
"Ugghhh I'm bored. You find anything yet Gen?"
Genesis snorted as she moved on to another area. She was just getting started, and the knight was bored already? Then she caught a whiff of something particular, something that seemed out of place in this fragrant bed of flowers. She noticed a bunch of purple flowers growing near the thickets, and the odor coming from them was...unpleasant. “Hey, finding flowers is a good skill to have. Gotta bring your girlfriend some pretty things every now and then, right?” She smirked, and leaned over to grab the bunch. “Hopefully it’s not something smelly like this, though.”
As soon as she gathered a bunch, however, it seemed like the smell grew even more pungent. It was so strong, it made her eyes water. “Ça pue! It stinks!” She held it as far away from herself as possible. It smelled like a mixture of dirty socks and stale milk. Definitely something one would not be bringing home to the wife or girlfriend...unless they were a witch and needed it for a potion. “Seven bunches of these, right?” She wiped her eyes with her free hand. “There’s some more over here, should be enough.”
She would move quickly, gathering more until she had four bunches of the smelly lavender pops. The flowers by themselves were pretty to look at, but was such an offense to the nose. Hopefully Valo had gotten three more bunches—her hands were full already, and she was more than ready to drop them off. “I think we have enough. Hopefully the baby doesn’t come out smelly like these flowers.”
