Word around was a man living on the outskirts of Kikka was always needing a hand collecting magical wood. As a token of gratitude he would give those who helped him a broom of his own making. It just so happened that Mania was in need of a broom. You see through the mouth of passerby and whispered from traveler to traveler there was a dungeon that one could get to if they could fly. Not many could do this so mostly only Magic Knights and adventurers would look to conquer these magical domains. Mania for sometime now had been completely fascinated by the dungeons so plentiful and open in Clover Kingdom. The rogue finally decided that it was time he saw one for himself and what better way than to tackle one that just popped up. The short walk to the old timer living outside of town was short and with a few simple directions from kind stranger, Mania would make it.
It was a humble abode, nestled from the teeming activity of town. A knock on the door and Mania would be welcomed inside, the old man telling him he had been waiting for his helpers to show up. Ironically enough the old man told the rogue that another had taken the request and would be arriving shortly. He offered the rogue some tea and quaint small talk. The two would exchange some pleasantries and meaningless small talk to pass the moment. It turned out the old man had been in the business forty long years. Mania had a plethora of questions he would ask and the kind old man was receptive enough to answer any and all of the curious rogues question. The tea he served was very good and fragrant Mania thought for a moment. Not used to being shown such kindness. After awhile the old man begin making inquiries of his own, to which Mania would respond to some, sprinkling truths in his words, but choosing to be deceptively vague.
He wouldn't lie, but none of the information Mania divulged would be hard evidence. Mania was skilled in this manner of speech, giving just enough to sate curious minds, but enough to safeguard his secrets. Mania was hoping his partner would show up soon because while the hospitality was nice, the young rogue was itching to dive into a dungeon. His mind drifting away to thoughts of adventure.
Apparently the big thing for starting out rogues, mages, magic knights just about anyone is to get yourself a Broom so you can travel places a bit easier. Even though that is what was told to Yemir she had hardly seen anyone flying around on brooms in her life, it was like it was some weird lost art but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a real thing. So off she went to find out how to go about getting such an item cause overall it would help her with her travels and even getting into some dungeons from the information she had gathered. Searching various stores and establishments any kind of broom that would be bought there were far out of the price range of the young woman, she was not wealthy in any sense of the word and could not come close to most of these price tags that she saw.
Yemir was starting to get dejected by how pricey it was to get your hands on a broom for a reasonable price till she came across a request by a name that popped out to her as she had seen that very name on some of the brooms in the stores. The request was asking for some help getting wood for the client to make brooms with and the reward was actually being awarded a Broom for pretty much free beyond the cost of doing the hard work of getting the wood as needed. Yemir snatched the request and made her way to where the client lived, which would be just outside of the cursed city of Kikka. This city had been invaded, attacked, taken over and destroyed more times then a place probably should have to deal with and that is just the most recent happening that Yemir had heard about. She kept her guard up and arrived at the home, it was a nice and humble home that spoke of warmth and acceptance.
Knocking on the door the owner would answer and allow her inside, “I see there is another to help this old man.” The owner said with a smile on his face, Yemir was confused for a moment but when she entered the home she spotted who the old man was speaking of it was another Rogue that she had worked with in the past, Mania. The boy had been helpful with their last task and Yemir was sure that he would be just as helpful this time around and that would make this task that much easier. “I see we had the same need of a broom didn’t we Mania.” Yemir said to the fellow Rogue. “Have ya figured out how to use offensive magic yet?” She teased the older boy. On their last mission Mania didn’t have access to any kind of offensive magic instead using Defensive magic and Yemir had teased him for it then too.
“Old man, how much wood do you need for us to gather for you?” Yemir questioned the client, “Only need four logs about the length of you little one of the magical kind.” The old man quipped back at Yemir teasing her as only an older individual could do. “There is a clearing not to far from here that you can find the needed trees at and you can take my wagon outside to help with carrying the logs back if you need it.” He continued and gestured at the wagon in question. “As long as you get back before night I can finish up my orders for the day and also get you two your own brooms too.”
“Well then, I guess its time to get to work don’t ya think Mania?” Yemir sighed, it was quite cozy inside the home of the client.
It wouldn't take long for Mania's help to make their appearance and much to Mania's surprise Yemir had walked into the room. She was a rogue Mania had a penchant for running into. The two had done a small number of jobs to great success. Mania would smile as she entered the small home. She would greet Mania, teasing him about his lack of offensive capabilities. Which was very much true so she had check-mated Mania there. It wasn't much he could do or say in response to the simple truth.
"Yup, thought I would get myself one - a man's two feet can only take him but so far. Nope, I'm still the same ole Mania with no real firepower~"
Mania would reply coolly, half chuckling after he spoke.
"You been drinking your milk? Doesn't look like you grew much Shorty~"
Standing up, Mania approached Yemir, making a gesture over the top of her head to emphasize her short stature whilst he talked. Mania knew it was a sore point for the female rogue, but they often exchanged quips back and forth in this manner. Mania would listen to the old man's words, he said that he had a wagon that he could provide the two of them. Also, he would point them in the direction of a clearing that was known for the magically rich, infused wood that grew in great abundance there. He also provided the duo of Yemir and Mania with the required tools to gather the wood. With that said, Mania was prepared to start this wood collecting mission, Yemir perfectly echoing the rogue's inner thoughts aloud.
"Agreed! We shall return soon~"
Mania would gesture at the older gentleman as he made his way out the front door, placing the small hatchet and larger axe in the back of the wagon. He would wait for Yemir before he begin pulling the wagon in the direction of the clearing they were informed about. Luckily the clearing was not too far from the old man's home, which would also make it easier to get back to him before night. A hand full of minutes would pass as Mania whistled a happy, upbeat tune. The clearing was well within view as he struggled to pull the wagon across the even terrain. Mania would stop once they were in the wide, open space and begin feeling for magic in the air. Because of Mania's talents in Sensory Magic, he would be able to feel out the magical wood with ease and sure enough, he could feel that the whole area was filled with the sensation of magic hovering aloft in the clearing within the forest.
"Lets make this quick!"
Mania would state flatly as he rolled the sleeves of his shirt up, the bright sun shining down below the cloudless sky. Grabbing the larger axe Mania would sense out the magical wood as he walked away from the wagon. Through the normal wood and vegetation, he noticed wood that looked and felt magically infused so he would get to work at chopping the fairly thick log into the appropriate size. Mania wasn't usually one to do hard, physical labor, but he really needed this broom for a sound reason. The muscles in his arms would slightly ache as hammered the ax through the magic wood. He would continue this action repeatedly until satisfied, producing two sizable logs for the old man. Mania would walk them over towards the wagon and begin to search for more of the special wood, feeling it out the mana to discern its hidden location nearby.
There was another jab at Yemir’s height by Mania but by now it was typical and if he hadn’t made any quip this whole time Yemir would have thought something was wrong with the Rogue. “Of course I have been drinking my milk, sometimes right after I wash my hands of some work.” Yemir replied with a smile. She shook her head listening to Mania tell her that he still didn’t have any offensive magic, that was still such a weird concept for the young woman. In a life where you could be fighting for survival any minute and not being able to attack back seemed foreign though she knew her fellow mage was more then able to defend himself with his magic, a defense only went so far.
Moving on to the task ahead Mania had taken up the mantle of pulling the wagon which Yemir was more then okay with after all he was the older boy and had more muscle then her. She just had the offensive magic and sometimes tactics to go with them. They walked to the clearing that the old man had described and while she watched Mania use his sensory to find some trees she followed suit and begun to chop down her own share of the trees not willing to have someone do all the work for her or on a task like this. After all she came here to get a broom herself by her own work so she swung that axe as best she could and while it took longer for her to do so then it did for Mania she was able to get her share of the logs bringing their total up to 4 logs all longer then she was tall which is exactly what the old man had wanted.
“Alright we got what we need let’s head on back to the old man.” Yemir would say as she took up the spot behind the wagon to help push it back now that it was loaded with the four logs that had been requested. It was a tiring experience but once they had arrived back at the old man’s house he was more then happy to see the task completed so quickly. “I’ll be done with these shortly and thank you for your help.” The old man said with a smile and went about his work it didn’t take long for him to finish being a crafter of some renown and skill. “These are for you.” The old man said as he handed the two their own brooms freshly made.
“Thanks gramps.” Yemir said with a smile as she held her new Broom. “Alright time to head on out now.” She said as she carried her broom over her shoulder and made her way outside saying her goodbyes to Mania and the old man and took off back home.
The pair would complete the task of gathering the required magic wood well before the sun would begin to set. Mania would wipe the faint droplets of perspiration from his forehead as he loaded the rest and tossed the ax back into the wagon. Yemir had done her fair share of the work required as she would state that they should head back Mania would give a silent nod as he begin pulling the wagon, Yemir thankfully would assist Mania by pushing the wagon from the back. That made the trip back much easier for Mania who was a tad winded from the physical labor. The old man was happy with the duo's haul, instructing them to wait as he prepared their specially made brooms. After a short delay, he would quickly finish his work, handing both Mania and Yemir a broom for their hard efforts.
"Much appreciated~"
Mania would say coolly as he exited through the front alongside Yemir who would leave with her broom carried atop her shoulders. Mania, would be carrying his beneath his left arm as he watched Yemir take the splitting path opposite from where he was heading. Yemir was a self-sufficient girl, though still, Mania was interested in the story that created such a mechanical monster. He would shelf the thought, figuring he'd run into Yemir once more. She tended to get around the country he mused. "Seeya around~" Mania would wave her bye as he took her to the other side of the split dirt path. Headed towards his next destination as the sun slowly begin to set.
